Coordinated Demand Response

Leading the Way in Energy-Saving Solutions

We are continually looking for smart investments that will help slow our members' peak load growth, save them money, and delay the need to invest in additional generating resources to meet load growth. That is why we are pursuing demand-side management activities such as coordinated demand response and energy efficiency incentive programs.

Demand response (DR) is the shifting of demand for electricity to non-peak periods, or reducing electricity use during periods of high-use or peak times to help prevent strain on our system or to avoid higher electricity prices. A coordinated demand response (CDR) program offers a cost-effective alternative to future peaking capacity, lowers demand charges, provides shared software/hardware costs, and more.

Get the Load DownSM is the Bright Energy Solutions® coordinated demand response program offered to MRES members. The CDR program will focus first on direct load control, primarily through the cycling of air conditioners and electric water heaters. Under the program, the Member's load can be monitored at MRES, and remotely managed through load-control strategies set by the Member and MRES together. Load-control events will be executed based on the peak demand of the participating Member.
