Detroit Lakes Public Utilities Adds EE Programs

The City of Detroit Lakes recently presented Essentia Health St. Mary’s Detroit Lakes with a check in the amount of $13,375 for their recently completed renovation. The City partnered with the Hospital and Clinic due to their energy efficiency upgrades to cooling equipment, motor controls, high efficiency pumps, and premium motors. Not only will these investments help the facility save money by reducing overall electric usage, they also show a commitment to conserving valuable resources.
These financial incentives are part of a program intended to encourage commercial and residential customers to reduce their electric demand and energy usage. The program, known as Bright Energy Solutions®, offers cash incentives to qualified business and residential customers for a variety of energy efficient measures, including lighting, variable frequency drives, pumps, cooling, Energy Star appliances, and residential heating and air conditioning.
The on-going energy savings for the hospital and clinic will help reduce utility bills for many years to come. The facility is expected to save 135,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and will reduce electrical demand by 50 kilowatts per month.
To apply for cash incentives, customers must complete an application form and provide the required documentation to Detroit Lakes Public Utilities. The Utility currently offers cash rebates to qualified customers for these commercial and industrial programs:

  • Heating and Cooling
  • Food Service
  • Lighting – retrofit and new construction
  • Pumps/Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
